If you are a hearing aid user your audiologist should have explained what to do if you see this sign. For those of you that have normal hearing you may not know what this sign means, so read on for an explanation.

Most modern hearing aids and cochlear implants have the ability to receive audio signals directly through "Telecoil or T-Coil" technology that is designed to allow the wearer to hear telephone signals better. Hearing aid users need turn on the T-coil feature on their hearing aid in order to receive these signals.

This same T-Coil technology can be used to assist the hearing aid wearer to hear audio broadcasts in public spaces that use an audio induction loop system or hearing loop.

This sign means that the facility has an IEC 60118-4 approved hearing loop system installed and serves to alert hearing aid user to enable the T-Coil mode on their hearing aid. For hearing aid user it will be a welcome sight and you can be assured that you will be able to hear any announcements or performances clearly.

In an Audio Induction Loop System an audio signal from a sound source (A) is transmitted by an induction loop driver (B) through a loop of electrical wire (C) installed around the desired reception area is picked up by a small coil of wire called a T-Coil (D) inside of most types of hearing aids and cochlear implants.

An Audio Induction Loop system eliminates background noises and echos by sending the audio signal directly to the hearing aid without extra equipment or devices to connect or put over the ears. To the listener, it sounds like the speaker is sitting on their shoulder, talking directly in their ear!

Installation of Induction Loops in public and personal spaces can make a profound difference in the lives of the hard of hearing anywhere that sound is broadcast.

Facilities that have Audio Induction Loops installed experience bettter satisfaction among their hearing aid using patrons. People are more likely to use Induction Loop's than other assistive type audio systems (External headphones or amplifiers, etc), as they do not require use of a bulky external device that identifies the user as disabled or different, and they don't have remember to check out and return the device.

Digital inLOOP 600 is designed to provide a stable loop signal in areas up to 600 square feet, but will power areas up to 800 square feet in ideal conditions. Digital inLOOP has a tone control and individual volume controls for each input.
